Sticks For Troops, an organization founded by Air Force SSgt. John Lindner in 2012, is in the business of boosting the morale of troops overseas. By sending equipment to military bases in Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Egypt, Sticks For Troops is bringing hockey to those who may need it most.
Through taking donations, and profits raised through an Etsy page, Sticks For Troops provides lightly used or new hockey equipment, such as protective pads and sticks, for military members stationed in many overseas bases and on ships at sea as well. This equipment provides means for players to start playing floor hockey, and for the organization of leagues and tournaments.
Recently Sticks For Troops teamed up with Bison Hockey Sticks, a company which accepts broken sticks and repairs them to then be sent to deployed soldiers. Featured recently in USA Hockey Magazine, Sticks For Troops has garnered much media attention, including from NHL athletes such as Carolina Hurricanes’ Nathan Gerbe, and Washington Capitals’ TJ Oshie.
Sticks For Troops is yet another way that the hockey community is giving back what we can to those who have given everything to us. As a community built on teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship, we are bringing these soldiers a means of living their lives as they had back home. Sticks For Troops is providing an amazing service to those that protect us, and it is an organization that we here at Hearts of Hockey wholeheartedly support.
Featuring apparel for men, women, and children, there’s something for everyone from this awesome organization. Click here to check out their online store.
